Cricket's Three Formats and Betting
Cricket betting covers three main formats — T20, ODI and Test. Each has its own pace, strategy and betting markets.
T20: The fastest format. Results can change very quickly in just 20 overs. T20 is the most popular format among Bangladeshi fans, especially in tournaments like BPL and IPL. Odds shift from moment to moment, making it ideal for live betting.
ODI: Fifty-over cricket makes for a longer game, so you get a wider range of innings-split markets. ODI matches in ICC tournaments and bilateral series offer good betting opportunities.
Test: In the five-day format, a draw is a genuine possibility. Test matches therefore have three separate result markets — Team A wins, Team B wins, or Draw. Many types of session-based markets are also available in these longer matches.
BPL is Bangladesh's home tournament — with teams from Dhaka and across the country competing, it adds a unique dimension to the betting experience. sonabet also offers odds on IPL and T20 World Cup matches.
Football and Other Sports
Alongside cricket, sonabet also lets you bet on football, tennis, badminton and other sports. In football three results are possible — home team, draw or away team win. This means the draw market in football works differently from T20 cricket. In T20 and ODI cricket there is no draw, so the market structure is simpler; in Test cricket that distinction disappears. Football's handicap, Asian line and goal-line markets are the equivalent of cricket's run-line. Each sport has a different type of market, so it makes sense to start with the sport you know best.
Popular Betting Markets
Match Winner
Pick which team will win the match. In T20 and ODI there are only two outcomes — Team A or Team B. The simplest and most familiar market for newcomers.
Toss Winner
Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The result is completely independent — pitch or weather conditions have no effect.
Top Batsman
Which batter will score the most runs in a specific innings or across the whole match? In this market you back one option from several.
Total Runs Over/Under
Will the total runs in a match or a specific innings be above or below the bookmaker's set number? That is the over/under market. For example: will Team A score more than 70 runs in the first 10 overs?
Top Wicket Taker
Which bowler will take the most wickets? This market focuses on bowling performance and is often available in major tournaments.
Multi Bet
Combine several selections into one bet — if all of them win, the odds multiply and your return increases. If even one loses, the entire bet is lost.
How to Read Odds
sonabet displays odds in three formats. The same price can be written three different ways — if any of them is unclear, see the examples below.
| Format | Value | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | Bet × odds = total return. Simple and the most widely used. |
| Fractional | 3/2 | ৳3 profit for every ৳2 bet. Stake returned separately. |
| American (Plus/Minus) | +150 | Plus means how much profit on a ৳100 bet. Minus means how much you need to bet to make ৳100 profit. |
Example 1 — The same price in three formats
Team A to win — ৳200 bet.
Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150.
If you win, total return is ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 stake). If you lose, ৳200 is lost.
Example 2 — The favourite's price
Team B to win (favourite) — ৳200 bet.
Decimal 1.25 = Fractional 1/4 = American -400.
If you win, return is ৳250 (৳50 profit). The American minus odds show how much you need to bet to win ৳100.
Live In-Play Betting
Placing bets while a match is in progress is called in-play or live betting. In cricket, odds can change in an instant — every wicket, every big six, or the end of a powerplay can shift them.
For example, if Team A loses 2 wickets in the first 5 overs, Team B's odds to win may shorten. On the other hand, if Team A scores heavily in the powerplay, their odds may improve from where they started. These shifts are what set in-play betting apart from pre-match betting.
Live markets require quick decisions — odds can update within seconds. It is therefore useful to have a basic understanding of cricket's rules and statistics before taking part in in-play betting.

Multi Bet and Betting Exchange
How Multi Bet Works
When you combine three separate selections into one bet, the odds multiply. Say three selections across three matches have decimal odds of 1.40, 1.60 and 1.90. The combined odds are 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.26 (approximately).
A ৳100 bet returns ৳426 if all three selections win together. But if any single selection loses, the entire ৳100 is lost. Multi bets offer a higher potential return, but the risk is also higher.
Betting Exchange
An exchange has two roles: BACK and LAY. BACK means betting that a selection will win; LAY means betting that it will lose.
Example: BACK Team A at decimal 2.50 with ৳500 — if Team A wins you make ৳750 profit (before commission); if they do not win you lose ৳500. If you LAY Team A (taking the bookmaker's role) — if Team A does not win you make ৳500 profit (before commission), but if they win your liability is ৳750.
Some Practical Betting Tips
Set a budget. Decide before each betting session how much you are willing to spend. Betting is entertainment — trying to recover losses can lead to problems.
Start with one market. Newcomers should first get comfortable with the match winner market. Once you understand odds, you can move on to total runs or top batsman markets.
Keep format differences in mind. T20 odds fluctuate much more than Test odds. This difference is even more pronounced in live betting.
Be careful with multi bets. Do not place large amounts on a multi bet just because the potential return looks attractive — if one selection loses, the whole bet is gone.
Read the rules. Before you start betting, read the terms and conditions and the wagering requirements for any bonus carefully — it will help you avoid misunderstandings.
